NEWS FROM CINEMA PROJECT

Welcome everyone to our ninth season of kick-ass cinema! Cinema Project has always been a nomadic organization over the years, and this spring is no exception. Due to space limitations at our home at the New American Art Union this spring, we have spread out across the city in collaboration with Northwest Film Center, Portland Experimental Festival, and Reed College. We begin our season with a two-night survey of short films and videos by the innovative Thai director Apitchapong Weerasethakul. In conjunction with the Cooley Gallery’s exhibition Jess: To and from the Printed Page, and in collaboration with the Backroom, we will present an evening of dinner, music, and films inspired by the collage artist Jess.

Bringing artists and filmmakers to Portland to present their own work, beginning a dialogue between the artists and our audience, and supporting the continued awareness of the importance of experimental and non-traditional film and video is a vital and central goal for Cinema Project. So please join us in welcoming two visiting artists this spring. Baltimore based filmmaker Stephanie Barber will bring an evening of her films to the PDX Film Fest. Curator and filmmaker Jesse Lerner will present two evenings of his own documentary based work programmed along side historical experimental Mexican films from his personal archive. Forming a new tradition, we will conclude the season with yet another out-door screening! Finally, we are in the preliminary stages of pursuing a permanent screening space. We will continue to update you as we move forward in this exciting endeavor.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the individuals, businesses, and volunteers that continue to support us and make this all possible. We look forward to seeing you at the cinema.
